I guess I don't upload as much art as I used to, but I do actually draw heaps still. So, here's a little "progress" post!
-progress!-Recently my most-used medium has changed quite a bit. I've swapped out using big Bockingford A4 sketchbooks in favour of - wait for it -
Smiggle sketch notebooks. Ahaha. I've got about two filled up atm (sort of - I've ripped out a lot of pages hurr durr) and working my way through another now. Even though the paper isn't special acid-free art paper or what have you, I particularly like how thick the pages are. The thickness helps in that when I'm drawing, even if I go over the line a million times it doesn't press through to the next pages.
Also, a while ago I started training myself to draw with pen, so I can transfer images that I see in my head quickly onto paper without worrying too much about mistakes and clean lines and so on (I find I fuss too much with a pencil). I like using the pens you get from BNZ. I've about seven of them in my pencil case, heh. Whoo! With the way I draw with pen though, I have used up a whole pen on a single drawing before. Anyway, it's become my preferred artistic weapon of choice, currently.
This isn't to say I'm not drawing with pencil anymore. I still love my mechanical pencil, but now it's more reserved for "serious" sketches, when I know exactly how I'm going to draw something. I've done a few drawings from photographs, which aren't totally translated from the realisticness (totes a word) of real life, but are stylised a bit. Unfortunately, the 'serious sketches' part isn't very often these days, it seems...
So I guess my style has developed quite a lot from the things I used to upload here. I'm gradually aiming to make my own style and shift it towards more realism, but not wholly realistic. With my pen sketches it's actually moving along quite quickly, which I'm pretty proud of. The times when my style changes the most drastically is between the last page of one sketchbook and the new page of another. For some reason whenever I start a new sketchbook it's like I have to learn to draw all over again, I have no idea why. It's kind of working in my favour this time though, I'm seeing results that I'm pretty pleased with!
Overall, I feel like I've made good progress in my art and I love the feeling of being able to churn out things I see in my head more often now. It's a good feeling c:
-other related art stuff-I find I'm more involved in music nowadays than I ever was, particularly so in the realm of making music. Recently, with my meagre collection of instruments, I've gotten into rearranging and covering songs, mostly by Beirut. I made a tumbelog to host them (as well as a few pieces of writing). If you wanna check them out, gimme some feedback, that'd be great. Who knows where my musical endeavours will go, I haven't ruled out the possibility in dabbling in it 'professionally' in the future, haha. So that blog is
[here].
I've also another one (my 'main' one as it were) which is kind of a blog for "pretty pictures". That one's
[here]. I know the two look similar, I've fooled someone with it before :'D (I like that layout).
So then I suppose I might try uploading things more, just from time to time. Well then comrades, I hope you will like the things that I continue to produce! o/
